Always Proud Festival 2022
Pride Giant Puppet Pageant, Tonks & the Aurors, Ferron & Jami Sieber
Celebrate pride with us year-round with the first-ever Always Proud festival, featuring Ferron, Jami Sieber, Tonks & the Aurors, and the Pride Giant Puppet Pageant. The festival kicks off on Saturday, August 27th at Open Space for Arts & Community.
After a COVID case postponed plans for a June pride event, organizers have made use of the extra time to expand the scope of the inaugural festival to include live music.
Schedule of Events:
3:00pm-5:00pm The Prefunc (Tickets by Donation at the Door)
3:00pm: Pride Giant Puppet Pageant (Great Lawn)
4:00pm: Tonks & the Aurors (ORBIT)
6:30-8:00pm: Ferron and Jami Sieber (Tickets Required) (Great Lawn)
8:00pm: After Concert Dance Party (No Tickets Required) (Great Lawn)
The festival kicks off with a Giant Puppet Pride Pageant featuring islanders of all ages performing, dancing, and showing off their elaborate masks and puppets that have been under construction since this spring.
Vashon Pride Giant Puppet Pageant is a co-production of Jawbone Puppet Theater and Open Space for Arts & Community. Leading up to the event, founder and janitor of the Jawbone Puppet Theater Adam Ende has been working with community members to prepare the puppets, masks, and banners for the event. As a multimedia artist and a community arts organizer, Ende and the Jawbone Puppet Theater have been featured on the Seattle Channel and worked on public arts projects around the country.
Tonks & the Aurors is a wizard rock band (music about Harry Potter) created and fronted by Steph Anderson. Since 2007, Tonks & the Aurors has traveled North America and Europe playing in libraries, bookstores, and nerd conferences and has released five full-length albums and an EP.
Tonks & the Aurors are presented by King County Public Libraries.
Both the pageant and Tonks & the Aurors performance are pay-what-you-can and begin at 3pm at Open Space for Arts & Community.
These events welcome everyone of all ages in the community. Festivities are scheduled entirely outdoors. Doors open at 2:00pm. There is no cost of attendance to the pageant or Tonks & the Aurors, but donations will be accepted to help cover expenses.
Tickets to Ferron and Jami Sieber are $45 for front lawn tickets, $25 for online advanced general admission, $35 for day of the show tickets at the door, and there is a limited supply of youth tickets available for free while supplies last. Online tickets close at 10am the day of the event. This is a NOTAFLOF event at the door (No-one turned away for lack of funds). Please Leave Your Pets at Home.
