Crazy Little Thing Called Love—A World AIDS Day Benefit
Open Space for Arts and Community and Vashon World AIDS Day 2018 present an evening of remembrance, music, and celebration to honor the great Freddie Mercury.
The death of Freddie Mercury from the complications of AIDS on November 24, 1991 was a milestone in the public’s perception of the epidemic. Much like the death of Rock Hudson in 1985, Mercury’s death put a face on the epidemic, no longer where the dead and desperately ill anonymous “others” but were people widely loved and respected.
If anything Freddie Mercury’s fame has grown since his death as many of his band Queen’s songs have become a familiar soundtrack in our lives. Who has not stomped their feet or sung along with “We Are The Champions,” “We Will Rock You,” or “Bohemian Rhapsody?”
