Liquid Light with a Twist

Laser Light Show brings boogie shoes to Open Space on September 16th

Get up on your feet! Liquid Light returns September 16th.

Back by popular demand, Vashon’s Liquid Light is returning to Open Space for Arts & Community on Thursday, September 16 with a new show designed to get you up on your feet and dancing!

After a July 4th world premiere at Open Space, Liquid Light is returning with new visual artistry and music focused on dance and movement for all ages. And, of course, blankets, lawn chairs and lounging around are welcome, too!

Created by combining curated music and laser-generated imagery, Liquid Light is not your traditional laser light show. Presented by VOV DJ Jon Schroeder and lighting artist David Marine, Liquid Light is the organic collaboration of two island artists who share their love of art and music. The Team synthesizes light and music by creating glowing, abstract real-time images with fully synchronized sound. Projected on the Douglas Fir grove at Open Space, the ever-changing shapes of light and color pulse and dance to the music. This natural theater springs to life with hypnotic music and light to the delight of all.

“When hundreds of islanders showed up on July 4th, we knew that we had something special on our hands. It was very Vashon,” says producer David Godsey, highlighting the upbeat, fun, and funky atmosphere. “People were ooohing and ahhing at the lights and lots of folks were dancing around the edges. So, this time we’re doing more to support the dancers in the crowd – more space and lights for a dancing area. This show will be perfect for those who want to lounge and watch the visuals and those who want to get up and shake it!”

According to Jon Schroeder, “Part of what we really love about this portable and powerful technology is that it allows us to take our two passions, music and art, and put them together outdoors in a natural environment at night. Combining those elements makes for a hypnotic, communal experience.”

The Liquid Light excitement begins at 8pm on September 16th at Open Space for Arts & Community. Gates open at 7:30pm, and music will be playing for hanging out, visiting, and early-bird dancers. Full laser show begins at 8:15pm. Guests are invited to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy with the show. Admission is $12 in advance and $15 day of the show, ages 12 and under are free, and nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. Tickets are available at OpenSpaceVashon.com. Please leave your pets at home but bring your favorite folding chair, pillows, comfortable blankets, and dancing shoes!

Those with lawn chairs will be seated further back so that folks on blankets can see. Questions can be directed to info@openspacevashon.com.
