The Future in ORBIT:
Open Space for Arts & Community invites the Vashon community to a town hall to shape All Ages music and arts programming in ORBIT May 17, 2022
April 28, 2022– Vashon, WA – Open Space for Arts & Community’s ORBIT program will be holding a Town Hall on May 17 at 4:00 pm, to hear from our community about needs and aspirations for arts and music programming to be held in the space.
ORBIT is the all-ages initiative of Open Space for Arts & Community, driven by and for young people’s voices and offering a space to connect, create, and celebrate arts and music. As Open Space for Arts & Community expands its indoor programming in accordance with Vashon Medical Reserve Corps COVID recommendations, ORBIT’s mission has grown to include music and arts training and programming for all ages. Community members are invited to attend this town hall to discuss ways ORBIT can create meaningful opportunities on Vashon in partnership with local organizations the Vera Project and Bric Brac.
Youth Programming Coordinator Michelle Lassaline will host the Town Hall with support from the executive staff of the Vera Project, Executive Director Ricky Graboski and Artistic Director Jason Clackley as well as former Islanders Mike Dumovich, a recording artist and founder of the grassroots organization Bric Brac, and Josh Ayala, a founding board president of the Vera Project.
The Vera Project is an all-ages music and arts organization based at the Seattle Center in operation for over 20 years. Bric Brac supports arts and music education by raising funds through live music events. The first Bric Brac music event will take place this summer at Open Space for Arts & Community.
The Town Hall on May 17 will launch a community dialogue about “what could be” to help shape programs, resources, and events that Bric Brac can support.
Michelle Lassaline shares her hopes for the event “I can’t wait to gather our community to talk about all ages arts and music. ORBIT is a space with so much creative potential and a commitment to empowering young voices, and we’re super excited to have the Vera Project and Bric Brac be a part of it.”
