Vashon Theatre Fest (VTF) opens Thursday, July 22nd with family-friendly outdoor performances at various Island locations, including Ober Park, Open Space for Arts & Community, Vashon Center for the Arts and Snapdragon café.

Performances at Open Space:

The Tempest
Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Darragh Kennan

Shakespeare’s story of an exiled ruler who uses magic to restore his daughter to power argues that the powerful must show mercy. First performed in 1611, The Tempest explores the consequences of European settlement in the New World. VRT’s version of this epic tale will take new twists and will tell the story in a way you may not expect.

Fail Better: Beckett Moves UMO

Created by UMO Ensemble
Directed by Elizabeth Klob

A love story, between UMO and Beckett. With a teeter-totter. And ropes.

UMO explores the thoughts, themes, characters and images inspired by the writing of Samuel Beckett with Fail Better: Beckett Moves UMO, their critically acclaimed love letter to Samuel Beckett. Five archetypal Beckett characters tackle love, life, death, and goings-on in typical Beckett fashion: with humor, metaphor, stillness, and gross indecency—creating a living, visceral experience. Their exploration takes them into the air on aerial ropes, balancing on a giant sculptural teeter totter and reacting in a sonic world that is the imagined inside of Beckett’s head.

  • Thursday, July 22 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, July 24 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Sunday, July 25 at 6:00 p.m.

One hour, with no intermission.

Performances of Fail Better: Beckett Moves UMO are limited to 100 people. Masks are required.
